The days of being pushed to suck it up and get on with it are long gone.

Instead, we live in the most emotionally conscious society ever, an age where everyone is telling you to “feel” more. – and I’m very much for it.

But just because you “feel” something doesn’t mean you should act on it, in fact, you shouldn’t.

If we all went through life making decisions based solely on how we feel – we’d have decisions come from places of anger, sadness and temporary joy.

Now, these are all really strong emotions and ones we should pay attention to. But they are far from the foundations of a good decision.

I’m sure we’ve all made a decision out of anger in the past, right?

How did it end up?

Probably not so great.

So what can we do instead and how can you avoid making those emotion-driven decisions?

Well, this is where your consciousness comes in.

You have to base your decisions on conscious reality, not just temporary feelings based on subconscious constraints.

So the next time you’re making a decision – flip your conscious decision-making ON.

Take your personal life for example:

“What do I deserve for dinner?” → What fuel does my body want for dinner?

“I feel too tired to do anything.” → How can I introduce simple movement in my day?

And the same goes for the workplace:

“I need to give this team member a telling off” → What next step should I take to get the best out of them?

“The team isn’t working hard enough” → We haven’t created a hard-working culture, how can we change that?

So when you think you’re making a decision on the intensity of a feeling – stop yourself.

But be sure not to conflict this with saying “never feel anything”… just be cognizant of feeling from your conscious state of mind instead of your subconscious driving your feelings!!

That’s all for now! Want to talk more about using your emotions and not letting them drive you?
